Students clash with police

Police clash with demonstrating students outside Greece's parliament in Athens, in the latest protest against austerity measures.

Police fired tear gas and clashed with youths during the brief incident after some 1,500 people marched though the Greek capital.

Greece avoided bankruptcy in May when it received a rescue loan package from the EU International Monetary Fund. In return, ministers in Athens imposed a controversial austerity plan which is facing widespread opposition.

Unions have called a general strike for December 15, the seventh of the year, and students are occupying university buildings. Another student rally is planned in Athens on Monday.
