Students draw inspiration from city’s ‘precious cargo’

Students have been drawing inspiration from some of the city’s collections of artefacts for a new exhibition at the Ferens Art Gallery. Entitled Precious Cargo, which is part of the London 2012 Cultural.

Olympiad programme, Stories of the World, opens today.

Objects include the kneeling slave, the emblem for the campaign against the abolition of slavery and an aboriginal bone comb. Students at Hull School of Art and Design and East Riding College came up with their own artworks for the exhibition.

Senior Education Officer David Alcock said: “This project has given students of Hull a wonderful opportunity to showcase their creative talents and commitment on a national platform, kick starting what will hopefully be very successful futures.” The project is led by Arts Council England in partnership with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
