Suburb gets into swing of festival

A Leeds suburb was filled with the sound and sights of the seaside as the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival got into full swing at the weekend. The Bassa Bassa Street Band, with Richard Scott on saxophone, led hundreds of people in a giant puppet parade on Saturday as part of the annual week-long celebration of local arts.

Work on the colourful parade, which sported a seaside theme, began several months ago as people joined puppet making workshops at various venues including local schools and arts centres.

The festival, which includes live music, poetry and art displays, is run by volunteers.
