Sugababes star hit by ban for drink-driving

SINGER Amelle Berrabah was banned from driving for 14 months yesterday after admitting drink-driving.

The 26-year-old member of the Sugababes was sorry for her "exceptionally silly" actions, her lawyer told Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in London.

She was also fined 2,000 for driving with excess alcohol.

James O'Brien, representing the singer, told the court that she would find it difficult to use public transport because of media interest in her.

But District Judge Ian Baker told the star, who was arrested at the wheel of her Mercedes in north London on September 23: "One can take an awful lot of taxis for the same cost of running such a car for a year."

Emily Maunders, prosecuting, said the "lowest evidential reading" was 58mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
