Summer music at York Minster

York Minster's season of summer music will feature a recital by its organist emeritus, Dr Francis Jackson, two months before he celebrates his 100th birthday.

Five Saturday recitals will take place in the cathedral’s quire, from July 29. They will be the last until 2020, as the Minster takes the Grand Organ out of service for its first restoration since 1903.

Its director of music, Robert Sharpe, said the summer recitals were “a unique opportunity to experience the Minster’s organ in the evening, when the building is quiet and listeners can enjoy the atmospheric surroundings”.
