Summertime Christmas for brave Nathan

For most families, the Christmas tree and decorations are stuffed away in the loft.

However, the Padgetts, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, are recreating Christmas this August bank holiday weekend after nine-year-old Nathan, above, was diagnosed with leukaemia in December last year. As he was too ill to enjoy the festivities, his parents Tracy and Stephen Padgett waited for him to be well enough for a late festive treat.

Mrs Padgett, 46, a microbiology scientist, said: "He was in theatre on Christmas Eve and was feeling so poorly so we didn't have much of a Christmas.

"Our family suggested we should re-create it in the summer so that everyone can be there and we can have a proper family affair."
