Sun risk for third of young people

A THIRD of young people are putting themselves at risk by not taking care in the sun, a charity has said.

Cancer Research UK said that 35 per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds use sunbeds, tanning oils and do not apply suncream properly.

A survey of about 2,000 adults found that more than a quarter of young people would spend at least an hour in strong sun without protecting their skin.

Just 20 per cent only apply sunscreen when they start to get burnt or their skin starts to feel sore.

Yinka Ebo, health information officer at the charity, said: “With all of the unpredictable weather we’re experiencing this summer, it’s key that when the sun does shine you don’t get caught out by sunburn.”
