Superheroes’ secrets revealed as myths meet combat reality

A celebration of some of the biggest characters from films and comic books have been round up to make this a Bank Holiday weekend for some to remember.

The Royal Armouries museum will be looking at some of the arms and armour sported by fantastic figures from movie and comic folklore and how they relate to real life relics at an event this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Characters including Batman, Wolverine and the Star Wars stormtroopers will all be in attendance and visitors this weekend will also get another chance to see the incredible replica Iron Man suit created by Bradford’s Mark Pearson.

Last year Mark, who has created his own version of Tony Stark’s invincible armour out 400 sheets of cardboard covered in fibreglass, took the museum by storm with his amazing homemade masterpiece.

A Royal Armouries spokeswoman said: “Museum visitors can learn about the modern superheroes’ arms and armour, plus combat skills and discover the connection between mythical characters and real martial arts disciplines and weapons.”

Museum admission is free although small charges may apply for some activities, they say.

Further details of the event have been posted online – at www.royalarmouries.org.
