ONE of the county’s big employers is urging staff to get fit and sign up to run, jog or walk a 10 kilometre event this year.

Staff at Asda in Leeds were yesterday urged to kick-start their New Year’s resolutions by agreeing to take on a Jane Tomlinson Run for All 10k in Leeds, York or Hull.

The Asda Foundation, charity arm of the supermarket chain, is the lead sponsor of the Run for All events. Asda staff in Leeds were given a gentle nudge yesterday in the form of a health check by Asda Pharmacy staff who checked blood pressure, weight, cholesterol and blood sugar.

Judith McKenna, chief operating officer at Asda, said: “Asda is extremely proud to be supporting the 10k series and all the charities that benefit from the runs.

“The Asda Foundation’s support means customers and colleagues can take on a challenge and achieve their own personal goal next summer and improving fitness is a great benefit for everyone.”

An important new element is Run for Gold which encourages people to set personal targets in return for a “gold” medal.

Organisers are also promoting the Yorkshire Season Ticket, which guarantees places in all three runs.
