Supertram operator names new top team

top management at a firm which runs a network of trams has undergone a major reshuffle, with a new managing director taking over immediately and two new directors to join after Christmas.

Stagecoach Supertram has appointed Margaret Kay as its managing director, while a new head of engineering and a new head of finance have also been recruited to take up posts early in 2012.

She said: “I am delighted to be leading the team here at Supertram. Our services play a vital role for the people of Sheffield, carrying more than 44,000 passengers every day.

“We are determined to keep improving our services and I look forward to working with the team here to drive standards up even further for our customers.

“Next year is going to be a busy year. We will continue to work together to make positive changes for our passengers and we look forward to attracting even more people onto our services.”

Ms Kay, who joins Supertram from another Stagecoach company, East Midlands Trains, created the two new management positions at the company as one of her first acts in the new role.

Chris Elliot, who also joins Supertram from East Midlands Trains where he led a £30m train refurbishment programme, will take responsibility for engineering from January 1.

From January 30, Tim Bilby will become Supertram’s head of finance and commercial. Mr Bilby joins Supertram from the G4S security group where he was finance manager for four years.

He has previously held a variety of commercial and financial roles including a position at EWS Rail Freight.

Ms Kay added: “I am very pleased to welcome both Chris and Tim to the business. I believe they will be a great asset to Supertram and I look forward to working with them both.”

Stagecoach Supertram operates on three tram routes in Sheffield and is used by around 15 million passengers each year.
