Suspected poacher to appear in court

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of poaching offences and two Lurcher dogs were seized after a deer was found badly injured near the East Riding village of Preston.

Officers were sent to fields on Sunday February 7 the outskirts of the village after a receiving a report of a group acting suspiciously.

A 20-year-old man from Hull was arrested and is due to appear before magistrates this week.

A deer found at the scene had to be destroyed.

Pc John Whitney said: “Humberside Police has a zero tolerance policy towards unlawful poaching type incidents.

“We are working closely with local farmers and landowners and have a Farm Watch scheme in operation, whereby members can contact us directly via radio to report suspicious activity.

“We will endeavour to prosecute all offenders and seize vehicles and dogs where appropriate.”

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
