She was shown how the company, one of the first of its kind in the country to make sugar free Halal sweets, produced sherbert lemons.

She told workers she was delighted by the new royal arrival on Monday afternoon.

Paul Finney, director of Candy Makers, said: “She said she was delighted and over the moon about the birth, naturally.”

The Princess also met the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds during her visit.

Mr Finney added: “It went absolutely fantastic.

“We were naturally honoured to have Princess Anne pick us to see what we do and it was a real privilege.

“Towards the end of the visit we were moving along but her Royal Highness wanted to go back and have a look at the toffee line.

“Everyone was over the moon that she chose to come and visit us and it was very successful.

“When she left she said she had a very enjoyable visit and she was pleased to see what we do.
