Swing bridge shuts for more repairs
Whitby's historic swing bridge will be closed to traffic and pedestrians next month while a replacement gearbox is installed after the 101-year-old crossing broke down this summer.
The work will see the bridge closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 9am on November 16 until 5pm on November 18. The gearbox on the eastern section is being replaced, mirroring work on the mechanism on the crossing’s western leaf which had to be repaired after it failed in July.
