Swoop on suspected cannabis farms

three suspected cannabis farms were shut down by officers yesterday in early-morning raids.

Following 19 reports to police over four weeks in January and February, made by local people about suspected drug activity in the Thornhill area of Dewsbury, officers carried out the operation, targeting eight addresses.

As a result, they uncovered three cannabis farms in the early stages of production.

They arrested a 21-year old man on suspicion of drugs offences from an address on Overthorpe Avenue after a suspected cannabis farm was found. He is currently in police custody.

Two other men have also been given warnings for cannabis possession.

The other fledgling cannabis factories were found at addresses on Castle Crescent, where the cautions were also given.

Five other addresses were also visited.

Sgt Neil Willan, of the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This operation was a result of the community telling us of their concerns about suspected drug activity taking place in the Thornhill area.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
