Takeaway applies to stay open until 3am

The business in Glossop Road currently has planning permission to open until 11pm but, at a meeting of Sheffield Council’s licensing board this Thursday, members will consider extending the licence for a further four hours, seven days a week.

Falafel King boss Masoud El-Saadawy had originally applied to open until 4am each daybut, after consultation with licensing board officials, amended the proposed closing time until 3am.

One neighbour has objected to the licensing application, claiming that Falafel King is already open past 11pm “on a nightly basis, often until 3am and sometimes even later.”

The neighbour added: “They have a pavement seating area outside the restaurant which they allow customers to use at all hours without any consideration for neighbours.

“I am constantly woken up by their customers, not only as they enter and leave the premises but also for extended periods of time while they eat and socialise outside my window.

“The owners seem to have a complete disregard to the residents surrounding them, as they make no attempt to control their customers and allow them to shout and sing at their tables for as long as they please.”

The neighbour adds that she has “suffered endless disrupted nights as a result of Falafel King.”

A further objection to the licensing application has come from Sheffield Council’s environmental health department, which says that Falafel King has “received complaints from neighbouring residents, concerning noise disturbance in the street.”

In his application, Mr El-Saadawy says that he “can’t see that there will be any crime and disorder” but “the police will be contacted should this occur.”

Thursday’s meeting begins at 10am at Sheffield Town Hall.
