Taking the low road

RESIDENTS were shocked to see five escaped Highland cattle wandering down their street.

They were caught on camera in Almondbury, Huddersfield by student Lucinda McNulty, 21.

Her father Robert said: “The cattle had escaped from a farm further up the village where they have just started keeping them.

“They’ve managed to make their way down some steps and on to a busy carriageway.

“My daughter didn’t know what to do. She was home studying for her health and social care qualification when she noticed them.

“To say she was shocked would be an understatement. I don’t know how they made their way down the stairs but they must have had to go back up them to get back to the farm at the top of our road.

“I tried to calm my daughter down and told her I would ring the police. By the time I got through to them they said there had been other reports of rogue cows on the carriageway. I was told they were herded back through the gate of the farm later that day so at least I know they’re home safe.”
