Tank holds promise of better water

DRINKERS in North Yorkshire are set to find their water tastes even better as Yorkshire Water begins a £150,000 programme of work to create a new underground water supply reservoir.

From June 13 the company’s contract partners Mott MacDonald Bentley will begin work in Grassington, near Skipton, to install the new structure which will be capable of holding 206,000 litres of water – equivalent to 2,575 average-sized baths full of water.

This work is part of a £23m scheme announced by the company back in December 2010 to create 16 new clean water supply reservoirs across the region.

The new tank, which is expected to be completed by the end of November, will replace the existing storage chamber which will eventually be decommissioned and removed, including the dome structure above it.

John Bond of Yorkshire Water said: “We’re committed to providing our customers with some of the best drinking water in the world. As well as investing in our reservoirs, our treatment works and thousands of kilometres of pipeline to deliver water to customers, it’s vital that we boast ultra-quality underground tanks in which to store our treated water.”
