Taser-style robberies accused to face court

A MAN is due to appear at York Crown Court next week in connection with two robberies in the city allegedly involving a Taser- style stun gun.

North Yorkshire Police officers arrested two men in connection with the offences, which were committed within two hours of each other in the early hours of Sunday.

The first happened in Shipton Street in York at about 2am on Sunday when a 31-year-old male victim suffered bruises to his face and one of his arms and wrists in the attack by two men.

He was taken to York Hospital for treatment after the assault.

At about 3.45am the same day, another robbery occurred in nearby Burton Stone Lane, when a 41-year-old male victim was attacked by two men. The second victim managed to run away to safety, but also suffered arm and facial injuries.

Police have said that personal items were taken in the two robberies, but have not disclosed exact details of what was stolen.

Following inquires into the two robberies, officers from the North Yorkshire force arrested two suspects at 6.15am on Sunday.

The first man, a 28-year-old from York, appeared before the city's magistrates on Monday after he was charged with two robberies, assault with intent to commit robbery and possession of a Taser-like weapon.

The case was adjourned until Monday next week when he will appear before York Crown Court. He was remanded in custody.

The second man, aged 32, has been questioned by police and released on bail.

Police are issued with Tasers, but they are illegal for the public to own.
