Taste of the sea on offer at resort festival

VISITORS to Bridlington will get a chance to sample a taste of the sea when the resort stages its second seafood festival this month.

The Bridlington Harbour Commissioners, in partnership with Bridlington Renaissance, are staging the festival over the weekend of August 21 and 22 to celebrate the town's status as England's premier shellfishing port.

As well as the attraction of fresh seafood dishes, a range of maritime and heritage organisations will be holding exhibits, including Bridlington Harbour Museum, the Cobble and Keel Boat Society, North Eastern Sea Fisheries, the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, and the RNLI, Flamborough Head Conservation Society.

Old boat-building tools will be on display along with historic boats and photographs of the harbour.

Phil Milnes, co-ordinator at Bridlington Renaissance, said: "Bridlington is the premier shellfishing port in England and is having its second seafood festival, which celebrates the local link to the sea with lobster, crabs and other shellfish based around the harbour, which is an active fishing port.

"There will be a range of activities for young and old and opportunities to taste and sample the delights on Bridlington Bay."

The latest plans for the proposed Bridlington Marina will be on display, with the Harbour Commissioners and Renaissance staff on hand to answer questions. The Lords Feoffees will also show plans for a multi-storey car park.
