A blindfolded test to see if visitors can decipher Terry’s chocolate to that of rival Cadbury is just one of a host of special events taking part at Goddards in York from Wednesday October 15 to Sunday October 19.

The home was built by Noel Goddard Terry and his family in the 1920s and was given to the National Trust in the 1980s after the death of Mr Terry and his wife. As well as a taste test, there will be the chance to design your own chocolate box, take a tour of the home and listen to the fascinating history of the Goddard family.

Mr Terry inspired the Terry Chocolate’s Apple, which never caught on as much as its orange counterpart, due to his after dinner ritual of enjoying an apple cut into segments.

Clare Fletcher, head of site at Goddards, said: “It was never quite as popular - nor was the Chocolate Lemon, which they also tried. The family were fascinating, with man and wife dying just three months apart, they were life long loves, and couldn’t live without each other.”
