Tate Modern role for top Chinese artist

Ai Weiwei, "one of China's greatest living artists", who helped create the spectacular Bird's Nest Olympic stadium, will take over Tate Modern's Turbine Hall this October.

The activist, who has been highly vocal about human rights issues in China, has been selected to undertake the 11th commission in Tate’s Unilever Series.

The space has previously been occupied by a giant crack, a series of spiralling slides and most recently a big “black hole”.
