The injured man, who was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, had been one of six passengers apparently involved in a dispute as they travelled in a taxi along Beverley Road towards Bransholme.

The men were asked to leave the vehicle and five got out near Beverley Road police station while the other remained inside.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He remained in custody yesterday.

Police want to speak to a number of potential witnesses, including a group of people who were standing in a bus shelter close to the junction of Strand Close.
