A former teacher at an East Yorkshire primary school has been jailed for three years after he admitted sexually abusing two young pupils.

Kelvin Young, 65, of Orchard Road, Skidby, was also found to have more than 200 indecent images of children on his computer when he was arrested in connection with the abuse allegations.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday how Young, who had been a teacher at Cottingham Croxby Primary School, indecently assaulted one of the complainants during an overnight school trip to Hebden Bridge in the 1980s.

Prosecutor Camille Moorland said Young came into the boy’s room and put his hand inside his pyjama bottoms as he pretended to be asleep.

The other boy, who came forward after publicity about Young’s offending, was ‘’fondled’’ by the teacher on two occasions in the 1970s when he came to the front of the class to read. Young pleaded guilty to offences of indecent assault and making indecent images children.

Judge John Potter said the offending amounted to a significant fall from grace. Judge Potter sentenced Young to a total of two years and eight months in jail for the sexual offences with an additional four months for the child porn offence. Young was made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order for the next five years and he will have to register as a sex offender with the police for ten years.
