Teachers with lesson in art show they are also in tune with football

ANY student who has wondered what their art teacher does outside of lessons can find out at a Hull gallery.

The "10 x 4" art group was launched by tutors who wanted to create and display work that was not purely aimed at pupils.

Initially comprising 10 artists with four pieces of work, the group now has 20 members and holds an annual exhibition. Visitors to this year's display in the public gallery at Kingswood College of Art will find a range of pieces and styles.

One, by a retired teacher exhibiting under the name Reg Charoo, features an image of the former Manchester City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann on a broken cello. Trautmann became an unlikely recipient of an OBE six years ago.

A former German paratrooper, Trautmann was awarded an Iron Cross before being captured by the British.

Refusing an offer of repatriation on release, Trautmann's goalkeeping skills were spotted by City and he entered footballing folklore in 1956 by playing on in an FA Cup final with a broken neck.

n The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 3pm until March 25, although anyone who wants to find out more can attend an event on Friday, March 12, from 6pm to 7.30pm, when the artists will be on hand to discuss their work over refreshments.
