Team on site of Cook family cottage

Local archaeologists and members of the Great Ayton History Society working in the Captain Cook Memorial Garden in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.

It is the actual site of Cook’s family cottage until it was moved stone by stone to Australia in 1934. Pictured above, Brian Pearce, unearthing some of the building’s original foundations and left, Simon Crombie and right, Jill Atkinson get to work.
