Video games developer Team17 is to launch Overcooked 2, the sequel to the double BAFTA-winning game, in August on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Overcooked 2 is a chaotic cooking game in which players serve a variety of dishes including sushi, pasta, cakes, burgers and burritos to customers in a series of unconventional kitchens - including a hot air balloon, a magical Wizard’s school and another planet.
The Wakefield-based firm, which is best known for its hit game Worms, said players will work solo or with up to three friends to prep orders while overcoming obstacles such as fire, collapsing floors, overbearing waiters and the classic kitchen problem of floating work surfaces.
The game has been co-developed in partnership with indie developer Ghost Town Games. The announcement of its launch was made at E3, the leading industry conference currently being held in Los Angeles.
The game is available immediately for pre-order.
Debbie Bestwick, CEO of Team17, said: “We are thrilled to be extending our relationship with Ghost Town Games with Overcooked 2, further building on the multi-award winning franchise. "Alongside our launch partners, we are delighted with the game and believe it represents a great example of our ability to collaborate with our partners, and generate exceptional gaming content, both for new games and sequels.”
Analysts at Shore Capital said in a note: "The game is a sequel to the BAFTA award winning (Best British Game and Best Family Game) co-op game, launched in 2016 to commercial success.
"Overcooked 2 represents a franchise where Team17 is acting as publisher to an independent developer Ghost Town Games, whilst also providing development. The company is looking to increase these engagements as part of its label and creative partner functionality."
