Firefighters were called to Selby Salads at Camblesforth late on Sunday afternoon. At its height, crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were joined by their counterparts from South Yorkshire and Humberside in tackling the blaze.

Last night North Yorkshire Police arrested the teenager in connection with the blaze.

He has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

Firefighters said a packing shed, loading bay and several Portakabins were involved in the fire, which was reported at around 6.30pm.

Eight fire engines, including firefighters from Selby, Huntington, Tadcaster and York, and an aerial platform were used to get the blaze under control.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was surrounded by 8.15pm, and the last engine left the scene shortly before midnight.

North Yorkshire Police yesterday urged any witnesses to the fire to come forward.

A spokesman said: “This was a large fire that has caused extensive damage. Extensive enquiries are underway, and we need to hear from anyone who may have information about the incident.

“In particular, we want to speak to anyone who was driving in and around the Camblesforth area on Sunday evening, and saw anyone in the vicinity of the site.

“Any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, could be crucial evidence that could assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact the Harrogate Serious Crime Team on 101.
