Teenager in court over rape attempt

Declan Cooper, 19, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates Court charged with attempted rape and sexual assault.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody, pending an appearance at the city’s crown court later this month.

Cooper, of Shirehall Road in Shiregreen, Sheffield, has been charged in relation to an alleged serious sexual assault committed on Hatfield House Lane in Shiregreen on Friday, August 9.

It is understood that, at around 12.15am that morning, a 50-year-old woman was walking home from work.

When she was close to the junction with Bellhouse Road, she was approached from behind by a man, who is believed to have subjected her to a serious sexual assault.
