Teenagers held in arson inquiry

TWO teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after fires broke out at businesses in Worksop town centre, causing “extensive” damage.

Emergency services were called to Deja Vu Café in Bridge Place at 3.45am on Monday, January 9, following reports of a fire.

A 24-year-old man in the flat above the café was rescued by the fire service and received treatment at the scene.

Later that morning, at around 6.15am, crews were then called to a fire at Papa’s Fish and Chip Shop on High Hoe Road.

Two teenagers, aged 18 and 15, were later arrested in connection with the fires and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

PC Ricci Skelton said: “It’s hard enough to run a small business these days without having to worry about something like this happening.

“It’s no small financial feat to have to shut up shop and restore furnishings and equipment following smoke and fire damage.
