Television cameras will be rolling at marathon

The marathon will see 7,000 runners take to the streets of York on October 12 and Dream Team Television will produce a 50 minute documentary of this year’s event.

Plusnet said yesterday it will fund a TV production of the event which will premiere on Channel 4 on Sunday, October 19, between 7-8am.

Andy Baker, CEO of Plusnet, said: “This is the second time the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon will take place yet it is already a phenomenal success. Once again, we are proud to be supporting and playing our part in growing its success through televising the event.”

In addition to Channel 4, a number of other broadcasters also intend to screen the completed production later in the autumn including BT Sport, Sky Sports, British Eurosport and a number of overseas sporting channels.

It will be presented by the current BBC master of ceremonies for the World Snooker Championships Rob Walker and Katharine Merry, who won bronze in the 400 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Mr Walker said: “York is a beautiful city and what makes this sporting event so unique is the focus on involving members of the general public, to raise money for charities close to their heart.

“Capturing stories of the individual runners within this splendid backdrop is the recipe for a great TV programme,” he added.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is being organised by the same team responsible for the Run For All 10K series and Leeds Half Marathon.

It stands as part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised almost £2m by completing a series of amazing sporting challenges, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
