Tennis fan threaten to 'rape and slaughter' Yorkshire tennis star Kyle Edmund

Tennis star Kyle Edmund has shared vile abusive messages he received on social media.

The world number 46, who grew up in Beverley and attended Pocklington School, discovered the 'troll' abuse after his second-round defeat to Novak Djokovic at the Indian Wells Masters tournament in California this week.

Checking his social media accounts after his straight-sets loss to the former world number one, Edmund, 22, found that one tennis fan had threatened to rape, slaughter and 'annihilate' him.

'You need to be brutally raped and slaughtered, cut into tiny pieces. You need to have your throat cut and your decomposing, bug-infested body fed to wild pigs.I'm going to f****** annihilate you.'

Another Facebook users, Anders Kring, wrote: 'You suck. Ugly and afraid of beating the greatest. You will always be a stupid Challenger player with no wins.'

The Challenger tour is the level below the main ATP tour events which Edmund, Andy Murray and other top 50 players contest.

The player admitted that he regularly receives abusive messages after games - even if he has won.

He posted screenshots of the messages on his official Facebook account with the caption 'More satisfied customers.'

But things were looking up for Edmund during his stay on the US's west coast, as he later posted a picture of a post-tournament round of golf in the Palm Springs sunshine.
