Tesco store for old steelworks site

retail giant Tesco has now been officially named as the company that will provide a new supermarket in the north of Sheffield.

The revelation came from Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties, which is currently redeveloping a former steelworks site at Stocksbridge in a £46m project.

The redevelopment will include the Tesco supermarket, retail outlets, office space and housing.

Mr Dransfield told Stocksbridge Town Council that an agreement had now been signed with Tesco in order to provide the supermarket facility.

He added that, although the car park at the supermarket would have parking time restrictions, these would allow shoppers enough time to visit other shops in nearby Stocksbridge town centre.

A jobs fair is now being planned in connection with the provision of jobs at the supermarket.

A Tesco supermarket in nearby Penistone, also developed by Mr Dransfield’s company, opened last year as part of a vast redevelopment of the market town which also included new council offices, fire and ambulance stations and a market hall.
