Testing time for theatrical talents

Regular theatre showcase Scratch@Fruit returns to Humber Street, Hull, this month.

The fourth event of its kind will include work by Janet Plater, Sue Wilsea and Jim Higo among a dozen excerpts. The pieces are performed, script-in-hand, by local actors.

The evening is produced by award-winning Ensemble 52 – the resident theatre company at the Humber Street venue – and curated by Hull-based playwright Dave Windass.

He said: “Initially we didn’t know how much demand there would be for a night like this but it has become clear that writers really have a need to test their work out before deciding where to take it next. We’ve also been bowled over by the audience numbers.

“People really enjoy the venue, which has its own unique, cracking atmosphere and is as far removed from a ‘theatre’ as it’s possible to get.”

Scratch@Fruit #4 takes place on Tuesday August 23. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets, priced £3, are available on the door and also from www.fruitspace.co.uk.
