Theft victims helped to secure homes

Victims of burglary in Bradford who are over 50 are to receive help with securing their homes.

Around 175 homes in the district will be made safer through a project run by Bradford District Crime Reduction and Age Concern.

Inspector Esther Hobbs said: "Having your house burgled can be a frightening experience which can leave you feeling unsafe in your own home. We want to help you feel safe and secure again by making your home a harder target for criminals by fitting the most secure locks to doors and windows."

To qualify people must have been a victim of burglary and over 50. They will be referred by crime scene visitors who will go to their homes after a burglary.

Volunteers from Age Concern, who have had police training, will then fit high security cylinder locks to doors and sash jammers to windows free of charge.
