Thefts soar alongside cost of fuel

TENS of thousands of pounds worth of fuel has been stolen by thieves who have targeted more than 20 businesses and homes since the beginning of the year.

Humberside Police say fuel siphoning has overtaken other crimes since the price of petrol and diesel rose to an all-time high.

Elderly people were among victims left in Arctic conditions. One woman in her 80s lost almost £600 worth of fuel which would have seen her through the winter.

In a recent case 4,000 litres of red diesel was siphoned from a farm building in Paull and 1,400 litres of diesel taken over two nights from trucks parked at a quarry in North Cave.
