Therapist made false claims over deaths

A THERAPIST has been banned for making false sick and compassionate leave claims over the death of her brother and mother.

Rachel Davis, a junior occupational therapist at hospitals in Sheffield, was struck off the Health and Care Professions Council register after a panel found she had amended six medical certificates.

She falsely claimed to her GP and her manager that one absence was due to the death of her brother and another the death of her mother.

Panel chairman Nicola Bastin said: “In the panel’s assessment, the established facts and misconduct are very serious, involving repeated instances of outright dishonesty for financial gain, which have a negative and subsisting effect.”

Davis did not attend the hearing.
