These shoes are made for walking

A sponsored totter around Leeds city centre in high heels is set to raise money for research into male and female breast cancer.

Organisers of the High Heel-a-thon on September 26, are hoping to attract 1,000 people prepared to walk a mile-and-a-half through the city centre, taking in the Victoria Quarter, Briggate and Park Square. Organisers Clearsilver, a communications agency, and partners Victoria Quarter are working to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The charity's Clair Chadwick said: "We are really excited about this sponsored fundraising event that the whole family, even the dog, can take part in, not to mention teams of friends and work colleagues. It is a vital initiative to help us raise awareness of both male and female breast cancer."

Last year around 500 people took part but organisers are hoping to see double that this year. Sign up at www.highheelathon.co.uk
