Third night of violence for riot-hit prison

Moorland prison near Doncaster was hit by violence for the third night in succession yesterday. All the prisoners in the adult wing, up to 100 inmates, were involved in a disturbance that began at about 7.30pm.

No prison staff or inmates were reported to have been injured, but extensive criminal damage had been caused, a spokesman for the prison said.

The Prison Service confirmed that Tornado teams, prison officers in riot gear, had been despatched to the site.
