Third place is second time lucky as runners pound through woodland

A SIX-MILE run through scenic woodland in West Yorkshire has been voted one of the best races in England and Scotland.

Runners voted the Woodland Challenge, which weaves through woods at Storthes Hall Park in Huddersfield, the third best in the Top 50 Races of 2009, published by Runner’s World magazine.

It is the only Yorkshire race to feature and third place puts it ahead of the London Marathon in 16th. First was Eridge Park Trail in Tonbridge Wells.

The Huddersfield race, which began in 2007 and is limited to just 300 entrants, is organised by the Stadium Runners who are based at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield.

Runners say the Woodland Challenge had a great atmosphere.

Last October’s second annual run attracted entrants from around the country, among them running legend Dr Ron Hill.

Runners were entertained by Sellers International Youth Band playing running favourites such as Chariots of Fire.

“Our team work tirelessly to create an event that brings everyone to Huddersfield for a day that they’ll never forget”.
