Third series of The Dales to be made

HIT documentary show The Dales is to return to TV screens after ITV commissioned a third series, producers have announced.

Yorkshire-born actor Adrian Edmondson will again host the popular programme, which tells the stories of Dales residents’ lives.

The 12-part series averaged more than 4m viewers an episode during its second series, shown on ITV1 earlier this year.

Mark Robinson, Creative Director of Leeds-based Shiver which makes the series, said: “The Dales has brought this beautiful part of the north into viewers’ homes for two years now but there are still plenty more stories to tell.

“It’s undoubtedly a beautiful place to live in but it is a remote environment too which brings with it many challenges - as we’ll see in this series, even getting to the nearest shop, hospital or school can be a round trip of two hours or more - but at least it’s across stunning countryside.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said it was great news for the area’s tourism industry.

“The first two series have undoubtedly helped to attract more visitors to the Dales and we are confident the third series will do the same,” he said.

The Dales will be back on ITV1 in 2013.
