The World Cup final between France and Croatia was briefly suspended after two protesters invaded the pitch.

A man and a woman, both dressed in smart shirts and black trousers with a red stripe down the side, could be seen running on to the pitch.

Croatia and Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren shoved one of the pitch invaders to the ground.

They were later dragged from the pitch by officials in fluorescent jackets.

Anti-Kremlin Russian protest group Pussy Riot has taken responsibility for the invasion.

Olga Kurachyova, a member of the punk band, said she was one of the people who ran onto the pitch at the final of the World Cup.

Kurachyova told Reuters news agency that she was in a police station at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium where the final after interrupting the match.

“Hello everyone from the Luzhniki pitch, it’s cool here!” they wrote in posts on their Twitter and Facebook accounts almost immediately after the event.

France won the game 4-2 to secure their second World Cup success.
