Thousands turn out to cheer Terriers after Wembley win

Thousands of Huddersfield Town fans celebrated their promotion to the Championship last night after the team’s incredible play-off win at Wembley on Saturday.

Club chairman Dean Hoyle, the players and manager Simon Grayson all appeared on the Town Hall balcony in front of a sea of blue and white after an open-top bus ride through the town from the Galpharm Stadium.

Huddersfield pulled off a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Sheffield United, a team they had finished nine points behind over the League One season.

But that counted for nothing at a sun-baked Wembley when the West Yorkshire club beat their South Yorkshire rivals 8-7 on penalties after all 22 players on the pitch had taken a spot-kick.

The bus travelled from the Galpharm via Stadium Way through the St Andrews car park, up Gasworks Street and Lower Fitzwilliam Street before travelling along the ring road and down High Street and Ramsdens Street to the town hall.

Attention now turns to the future of star striker Jordan Rhodes who scored 40 goals for the club but might be on the way out in a multi-million pound deal.
