Threatened club not out

SENIOR officials of a Yorkshire cricket club which faces being evicted from its ground say a deal to save its future may be found. Last week the Yorkshire Post revealed that unless Barkisland Cricket Club found £57,000 in back-rent and the means to pay an annual rent increase of 165,000 per cent it may have to disband.

Its peppercorn rent was 5 in 2003 but is now 8,250 each year in line with the site's value.

President Brian Winrow said after an emergency meeting negotiations would continue in the hope of an agreement.
