Threats to children in terrifying armed raid

A MOTHER and her two young children were subjected to a terrifying ordeal at the hands of armed robbers who targeted their house .

The Bradford woman was dragged around the house by her hair and forced to reveal the location of a safe after one of the hooded and masked intruders threatened to kill her children.

The children were playing in the garden on a Sunday afternoon while their mother was on the phone when Zakir Khan, 19, and another man, who has not yet been traced, ordered them inside the property.

The accomplice dragged the woman into the living room, pushed her face down on to the floor and shouted at her: “Where’s your safe or your kids are going to die.”

Khan took hold of the children by their hair or head and pushed them into the same position.

Bradford Crown Court heard how the accomplice, who was carrying a hammer, demanded to know the location of money and gold.

The woman was dragged around the property by her hair during the attack.

As the two robbers were getting ready to leave, the woman’s eldest son arrived together with a friend and two police officers.

During a struggle in the hallway the woman and her son were both struck with a hammer.

Khan was subsequently arrested by the police.

Yesterday, Khan, of Pollard Lane, Undercliffe, Bradford, pleaded guilty to robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

Judge Peter Benson sentenced him to six years detention in a young offenders institution.

The judge described the attack as “disgraceful criminal behaviour”.
