Three and easy as triplets pass test on same day

A set of Harrogate triplets have all passed their driving test at the first time of asking – on the same day.

Natasha, Ross and James Harrison, 17, began their driving lessons on their birthday, practising two hours between them every night.

And the trio didn’t even have to spend any money to do it, after being taught by their stepfather Steve Thompson, a former driving instructor.

Mr Thompson, 49, who ran his own driving academy after serving in the Army for 25 years but has since retired, booked the teenagers’ tests months in advance as a challenge to them to pass on the same day.

When all three came back home with their individual good news, Mr Thompson and the siblings’ mother – his wife of five years Rosemary, 48 – were both astonished.

“The three of them were absolutely thrilled, and couldn’t believe they had all passed the first time on the same day,” Mr Thompson said.

“We were ecstatic and so happy for them for doing the family proud.

“I was a driving instructor from April 2007, and it was always the plan to teach the triplets as it would save us hundreds if not thousands of pounds in lessons.

“Before they turned 17, I used to go through the theory training with them to give them a head-start.

“They did an intensive four-month driving period with me and help from their father who lives nearby.

“They now have two cars between them which they can access at any time. It’s great for me and their mum too, as we can have up to two taxis at once.”

Natasha was first to take her test at 9.37am, followed by Ross at 11.27am and James at 3.22pm.

Natasha, described as the “more careful” driver by her stepfather, passed with two minors, James with four and Ross with six.
