Three held after van driver stabbed

Three men remained in custody last night after being arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a van driver who was stabbed as he confronted thieves.

The men – two 23-year-olds and one aged 21 – were arrested on Saturday after the early hours attack in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

Victim David Mullen, 43, is in a critical but stable condition at Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital having suffered multiple stab wounds.
