Mary Byrne, 51, died on Saturday evening following the crash in Mandale Road, Buttershaw.

In an ironic twist, it emerged today that a road safety warning at the entrance to St John the Evangelist Catholic Primary School almost opposite the crash site, which warns drivers “Do not park on the zig zag lines”, was drawn by Mrs Byrne’s granddaughter Grace, seven, who lives a few hundred metres away.

Mrs Byrne’s taxi was in collision with a black BMW which was driven by a 21-year-old man, West Yorkshire Police said.

He was the only occupant of the car and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Two other men, aged 17 and 19, have also been arrested on the same charge.

All three remained in custody, the force spokesman said.

Police asked anyone who saw either vehicle before the crash to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
