Three killed in Albania protests
Three people died in the Albanian capital Tirana yesterday during clashes between police and up to 20,000 opposition supporters.
The protesters rallied outside state buildings calling on the conservative government to quit following the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Ilir Meta. He is accused of corruption over a power plant tender.
Some protesters threw stones from the top of a pyramid-shaped museum near the office of Prime Minister Sali Berisha and set light to a police car and other vehicles.
Albania has been in political deadlock since the socialist opposition rejected the result of the 2009 elections. The next general election is not due until 2013.
