Three quizzed over shooting of teenager

DETECTIVES were last night still questioning three men over the murder of a teenager in Sheffield.

The 18-year-old received fatal gunshot wounds at a birthday party in the early hours of Sunday after an argument broke out among Somali youths at the Spital Hill Plaza in Spital Hill, Burngreave.

He died a shot time later in the Northern General Hospital.

Spital Hill remained closed yesterday while police carried out their investigations and is likely to remain shut until this morning.

The road provides the main pedestrian access to a new Tesco Extra superstore – the largest in Sheffield – which re-opened yesterday.

Although police will not officially identify the murder victim until a post-mortem examination has been carried out, he has been named locally as Deeq Ali.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Anyone with information that could assist detectives with their investigation is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
