Threshold for social care set to be raised

Members of the council’s executive will tomorrow be advised to approve the proposal to change the Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) eligibility threshold to provide funding to people who have a substantial or critical need only.

Bradford currently sets the FACS threshold at moderate. The FACS threshold is a national set of guidelines which helps determine a person’s care needs and whether the individual is eligible for a service from the council. People can be assessed as either low, moderate, substantial or critical.

Councillor Amir Hussain, the council’s executive member for adult services, said: “Bradford Council has been one of the hardest hit financially with budget cuts. We have less money to spend and more people who need support and more people with complex needs.

“We need to ensure that there is enough money to support those with the greatest need.”
